HD Web Camera For Mac OSX

External HD Web Cameras For Macintosh

Adding an external Mac compatible HD web camera can give you far greater versatility in camera angles and placement. Although many Apple computer models feature a built-in iSight camera, there are limitations to camera placement and angles that are frustrating. An external high-definition webcam can give you much greater freedom when framing and capturing your video sessions. They can also give you a better image than Apple's built-in iSight if you choose a quality, premuim external camera with superior lenses and microphone, improved light management, sharpness and color balance.

Driverless USB 2.0 Web Cameras For Macintosh Computers

Apple compatible web cameras are easier, but still tricky to identify. Not all video web camera manufacturers clearly identify thier web cams as UVC - USB Video Class compatible -- which is essential for instant Macintosh OSX compatibility. UVC requires a USB 2.0 speed port to be supported in OSX Mavericks, Lion and Lepoard's bundled UVC drivers. These provide 'Plug and Play' compatibility with Apple's iChat AV, PhotoBooth, QuickTime capture, ISPQ VideoChat, and others capture and chat programs for Macintosh.

Skype HD web camera Video And Chat Requirements For Macintosh OSX

    Skype for Macintosh System Recommendations:
  • 2+GHz Intel processor for opimal HD sessions.
  • Macintosh OSX Mavericks or Snow Leopard.
  • 1GB free storage space on your hard drive.
  • Either USB or Bluetooth headset if your Macintosh computer lacks a built-in mic.
  • Optional 3rd Party image adjustment apps.
For voice calls recommend broadband connection with 100 kbps down / 100 kbps up. For team video calling everyone on the call needs at least Skype 5.0 for Windows or Macintosh or higher plus web cameras, and at least one person on the call needs to purchase a Skype Premium subscription to allow multi-party conferencing. For best quality we strongly recommend you use a high-speed broadband connection of 4Mbps down/512kbps up and a personal computer with a Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHz cpu. As a minimum you'll need a high-speed broad connection of 512kbps down/128kbps up and a computer with a 1 GHz processor.

Unfortunately, few Macintosh programs currently exist to take advantage of HD web camera resolutions beyond 640x480 when video conferencing. You may have a Macintosh compatible HD web camera, enjoy the razor-sharp image, light sensitivity, and color-balance. But you'll still only be video-chatting at 320x240 or 640x480 VGA resolution at best. These are manageable resolutions and video sizes that your average internet connection can handle.

Mac Pro towers have three qualities making it ideal for web cam video capture, conferencing and chat. These high-end desktop Macintosh computer models have USB 2.0 speed ports, the ability to run Mac OSX Leopard, Lion and Mavericks as the ideal system requirements needed for these web cameras. Fast dual-core processors allows them to achieve high web camera frame rates even with HD web cameras at 2MP, 3MP and higher resolutions. Recent upgrades to the Apple Mac mini make it a compact powerhouse as well, more powerful for video uses than ever before.
